Cheryl Chan Wei Ling is a prominent Singaporean politician and Member of Parliament (MP) from the People's Action Party (PAP). She currently represents the East Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC). Cheryl is also the Chairperson for the Ministry of National Development and serves as a member of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment.

Early Life and Education

Cheryl Chan was born in 1976 and received her early education at Singapore Chinese Girls' School and Catholic Junior College. She obtained a degree in Materials Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in 1999. In 2004, she earned a Master of Business Administration from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Professional career

Early career

Cheryl began her career in 1999 at Kulicke & Soffa, a well-reputed provider of semiconductor back-end assembly equipment. She later joined Linde, a leading industrial gases and engineering company, where she held various leadership roles, including Head of APAC Clean Hydrogen. She played a crucial role in the merger and integration of Linde and Praxair for the APAC Management Office.

Current Roles

In 2021, Cheryl joined ST Engineering as the Group Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer and President of New Ventures. Her responsibilities include strategic planning, corporate venture capital, business development, and driving sustainability initiatives.[1]

Political career

Cheryl entered politics in 2015, successfully contesting the Fengshan Single Member Constituency (SMC) in the general election with 57.5% of the vote.[2] In the 2020 general election, she secured a seat in East Coast GRC with over 53% of the vote.


Achievements and Awards

2013: Awarded the Pingat Bakti Masyarakat (Public Service Medal) for contributions to community service.

2016: Received the Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award for her accomplishments in public service and the private sector.
